Eli The Climber (Mischevious Mondays)

Jess McGlynnAugust 6, 2012

When I saw Louise at A Strong Coffee had started this link up I couldn’t wait to join in.  Eli has always been more adventurous than Meg but since he started walking, and particularly this week he has just been in EVERYTHING and honestly, I am so not prepared to deal with a toddler like that!

This week has been a climbing week.  Every time my back was turned, if Eli could climb it then he would.  Some things that have been put in place to make Meg’s life a bit easier (steps to the fruit bowl for example) have now become danger zones a playground for Eli.

It started one morning this week when I was in the kitchen making breakfast.  Eli was busy banging his toy hammer against one of the dining chairs and I think it was a few minutes before I realised he’d gone quiet.  I came out of the kitchen and realised why – he was standing on Meg’s table looking very pleased with himself indeed!!

This grin is becoming Eli’s little trademark.  The minute he hears the word “no” he flashes this smile as though it’s some kind of get out clause!!  I have to admit, 9 times out of 10 it does make me smile back.  He’s just so cute with it!

The next day I was hoovering the lounge first thing in the morning when again, I realised that Eli wasn’t two steps behind me trying to ‘help’ with the cleaning.  I turned around and there he was, up on the steps helping himself to a banana!  He looked so pleased with his achievement I didn’t have the heart to take it off him.

Friday afternoon I caught him trying to scale the safety gate at the bottom of the stairs.  He only succeeded in getting his foot stuck through the bars which wasn’t so bad.

Then there was daddy’s great idea to block the media unit with the travel cot (in other words, daddy forgot to put the travel cot away!) which provided Eli with a great step up to reaching the TV.

Not to mention catching him halfway up the stairs when *ahem* someone forgot to close the safety gate and the host of times I’ve rescued him from being stuck halfway onto the sofa and halfway off as he can’t quite get his leg up.

So a very mischevious week for us!  Hopefully this week it won’t be such a novelty being able to climb things, I don’t think my nerves can take it!
