Children’s Book Review: Zoe & Beans Look At Me!

Jess McGlynnOctober 10, 2013

This is a board book featuring the loveable Zoe and Beans characters written by Mick Inkpen and Chloe Inkpen.  Since the day it landed on our doormat it has been a firm favourite at bedtime and Meg and Eli can now (and do) recite the words to the entire story as we read it to them.

Zoe, Beans and their friend Oscar find a dressing up box and try out different outfits.  They dress up as a pirate, a doctor, a robot and others before simply deciding to switch clothes and be each other!

This is the first in a new series of board books and we are looking forward to reading the others.  Although Meg enjoys it, it’s probably a little bit too simple for her age group but it is the perfect length for Eli.  He likes the rhyme and rhythm and looking at the illustrations which complement the story perfectly.  His favourite part is definitely when they dress up as robots and no matter how many times we read the story he still laughs at Beans with a colander on his head.

It’s worth bearing in mind that this is a new set of board books aimed at toddler age.  If you have older children who are fans of the longer Zoe and Beans adventure stories then this will not fit the bill.  I have seen a few reviews on sites where people have complained about it.  It’s not meant to be the same!

I would definitely recommend this book for preschool aged children and at £5.99 it’s also perfectly priced to be given as a gift too.
