A New Start

Jess McGlynnJanuary 2, 2014

It is with an incredibly sad face that I have to admit to looking back on my resolutions post from last year and realising that I didn’t achieve a single one.  I can’t believe it!!  My mini-bucket list was a mini-fail list.

It’s surprising, as I would have thought that with a whole 365 days to play with I would at least have managed to tick one thing off the list.

I suppose it just goes to prove that I am no good whatsoever with making resolutions; not just because they are difficult to stick to but also because we are at a point where life is unpredictable, young children don’t always make for the most organised of circumstances after all.  However this year I don’t want to put plans in place and then be left feeling down next January when I am in the same situation all over again.

Of course, though, there are things I want to achieve this year.  We are moving house in two days time and starting out on an entirely new adventure as a family so that naturally has to take precedence; I would like to see us settle into our new life and to explore the area we are going to be living in, to make some new friends etc

I’d also like to start exercising again; I am a bridesmaid at my brother’s wedding in August so that is my motivation for losing the extra weight I have put on over the last few months.  My diet of late has been horrendous and as well as putting on some weight my skin has really suffered so I’d like to, if not exercise daily, then at least have a better diet.  I used to be very good at making sure I drank lots of water throughout the day but in recent weeks I seem to have switched water for cups of tea which, as you can imagine, is not at all the same!

Then there are the other usual suspects such as seeing my writing business grow, taking more time out to read and not stare at a computer screen, making more time to spend together as a family and so on.

Mostly though, I just want to enjoy 2014 for the little things.  We have had our ups and downs this last year and I want to be able to put them behind us and start again, remembering that this year is a clean slate for us.

It’s going to be a huge challenge to up sticks and move to a place we really don’t know that well at all but I am really excited about having this adventure and starting this fresh chapter as a family.

A new year, a new house, a new place, everything is going to be new and it gives us the chance to really start things again.

I’m really excited to see what opportunities come our way.
