Get Good Summer 2014: Week One

Jess McGlynnJuly 3, 2014

After having to hang my head in shame at the end of last year I seem to have started this summer with a bang.  Let’s hope that I can continue in the same vein for the next 9 weeks!

Here’s a little update on how I have got on:-

Read 10 books

This has gone surprisingly well and I have finished one book already, ‘The Vintage Summer Wedding’ by Jenny Oliver (my review of this will be up next week on the blog) and am halfway through another which was recommended by someone on Twitter and which I am thoroughly enjoying.

Have one interesting date night a week
Last week, we actually…wait for it…went out on a Real. Live. Date.  This never happens.  Never ever.  Usually if we manage to coerce someone into having the children we fill our time by catching up on our sleep or cleaning the house or racing up and down the country to some function or other.  So I was very surprised when my Other Half arrived home in the middle of the week and informed me that we were going out for dinner and a movie.

Okay, so it was pretty much the same as we do from the comfort of our own home most nights but I can’t think of the last time we actually saw a film the same month it came out.  For those wondering, we had a delicious Frankie & Benny’s followed by watching 22 Jump Street.  Which was hilarious.  Although we seemed to be the only ones in the cinema laughing…go figure.

The other three things on my list I can’t actually do until the start of the summer holidays so I’ve got three weeks to ensure they happen.

How have you got on this week?  Head over to Clarina’s Contemplations to see the original linky.

Fabulous start lovely! I average two books per year at the mo, so take my hat off to you for aiming to read one a week. Date night sounds awesome xx

What a great start you've made on your goals. Much better than me! I look forward to your book review post as I need to find a book to read for one of my goals. I'm just trying to read one book cover to cover. Not as ambitious as your 10!

Go Jess!!! You're beating me on the book stakes… though I have to admit, I was asking myself earlier why I decided to start with the heftiest book – a glutton for punishment it seems! Glad you guys had a lovely night out together! To be honest, I should add that to my list too! Great first week – keep going!! #GetGoodSummer

Well done, Jess! You're winning. I'm taking a more relaxed approach. We still have nine weeks to go, right? #GetGoodSummer
