Love the Little Things #1

Jess McGlynnOctober 3, 2014

I’ve seen a number of the blogs I love to read joining in with this linky and I have been meaning to get my act together and join in for a while now…so here I go!

I absolutely adore the idea of celebrating the little things which bring a smile to my face each week and after deciding I would join in with the linky last week, it has actually given me a new level of appreciation for the smaller details as I looked for inspiration in my days.

This week I’ve finished two books, ‘The House We Grew Up In’ by Lisa Jewell and ‘The Water Horse’ by Julia Gregson. Both were beautiful books in their own way although set several decades apart and I will review them separately (the Lisa Jewell review is up today!) although I would heartily recommend The House We Grew Up In. Definitely one of the best books I’ve read this year.

After discovering that every single series of Grey’s Anatomy was on Sky On Demand we have been devouring them. Every evening we collapse on the sofa and watch at least two or three…I can’t get enough! It is, like, one of my most favourite programmes ever and we have watched a fair amount of TV box sets in recent years!

One of the best episodes I’ve watched this week is the musical one in Season 7. Oh how I wept.

I am totally loving Sam Smith’s album at the moment; it is just such great background music. It’s funny because when his first single came out I loathed it to the point where I would change the station if it came on the radio and now it’s on most of the time when I’m working in my study.

This is a toughie as we tend to not do as many crafts now that Meg is at school and Eli at preschool. However, I did set up a simple invitation to play yesterday with autumn-inspired paints and tissue paper which seemed to go down a real treat.

If you have been anywhere near my Instagram timeline recently you will no doubt have noticed that I am a little bit in love with children’s autumn fashion at the moment. Meg has finally decided to have a growth spurt after wearing the same sized clothes for about two years and I have loved treating her to a whole new wardrobe rather than just one or two pieces to see her through the seasons. I don’t know whether it’s the clothes or just a coincidence but she seems to have suddenly aged as well and now just looks so very grown up.

And lastly…
This week I decided to treat myself to some new bath stuff. Normally I just get whatever is on offer but after buying my lovely sister in law some gorgeous Bayliss & Harding products for her baby shower a couple of weeks ago, I decided I wanted some for myself. I even treated the kids to some (and it was so cheap too which is a huge bonus); now the only trouble is that I keep using all the hot water having a bath every evening the minute James walks through the door.  I think there are only so many times I can claim to have had a really hard day!

Have you all had a great week?

Greys Anatomy is the best isn't it? I think I've seen every episode but I still re-watched them from the start when they came on Sky. I'm not that taken with the most recent seasons but of course I still watch them!
Loving your children's outfits, those mustard trousers are fab.
So pleased that you've joined in with #littleloves – have a lovely weekend x

I am a HUGE fan of Greys Anatomy and the musical episode is one of my favourites! I am currently re-watching the whole thing again {I am on season 7!} I love that Sam Smith song too, such a talented person!

Aww, so great to see you here lovely! I absolutely adore all your little girl's clothes. Don't you wish sometimes that they made them in adult size? I'd totally wear that tutu and grey sweatshirt! 🙂 We are massive Grey's Anatomy fans too. You should try Scandal as well – it has the same writer and is a bit addictive too! Have a lovely weekend xxx

I love this linky too Jess but have always felt a little daunted at joining in – don't want to put myself under too much pressure! I spotted the pics of your kids, I particularly love that tutu skirt on your daughter, gorgeous! The books sound good too 🙂
