The School Edition

Jess McGlynnSeptember 7, 2015

It was 10am Monday and all through the house, nothing was stirring…not even a mouse…

I feel a bit lost without my two sidekicks following me around the house but I have been so proud of the way that Eli has taken to school.  That first day was a real mixture of emotions; I thought I would feel okay, and I did until we got to the playground and I saw how small he looked amongst all the other children and how he walked through the classroom door struggling under the weight of all his bags which he had been determined to carry himself…

I didn’t expect any issues with Meg and I was right, other than me no longer being allowed to kiss her on the playground in case her friends see.  Tres uncool so I have been informed.

Every year, on the first day of school I take a picture of the kids holding up a blackboard saying what they would like to be when they are older.  My eventual plan is to put all the pictures in a book and hand it to them when they leave home/leave for university etc…I also find it interesting to see how much they change from year to year.

From this…

To this…the weather was a bit different to last year but Meg’s answer, interestingly, hasn’t changed.  She has her hair tied up in this photo but seeing last year’s springy curls has shown how much her hair is losing it’s curliness.  She, of course, thinks this is brilliant as she wants nothing more than to have straight hair but it does make me a little sad.
Although Eli wasn’t technically at school last year, he still wanted his photo done before he started at nursery.

And I think he has changed hugely in a year.  He still looks quite babyish and toddler-esque in the photo above whereas now…he is definitely a boy ready for school!
I am trying to embrace the peace and quiet; to use the space and time to write more of my second novel and get up to speed with all the work I’ve been putting off for the last 6 weeks but to be honest, I am quite missing have the two of them at home.  Ask me that at 7pm and I might give you a different answer however!

Aww! How sweet! What a lovely thing to do! A great idea! I wish I had thought of it sooner! I still miss my girls when they are at school and they have been going for years x
