Inspiration, Big Dreams and Mr Sherlock Holmes…#LittleLoves

Jess McGlynnNovember 6, 2015

I took a short break last week whilst it was half term and we were having lots of fun moving house…but I’m back this with with lots of little loves after we have settled into our new home and discovered lots of thing to enjoy about being in a sleek new build (which is definitely something I never thought I would say!)

Can you believe I packed all of my books and I haven’t gotten around to unpacking them yet…even James was surprised and thought that they would be the first thing I got sorted.  So I haven’t read anything this week unless you count contracts and inventories but that’s not very exciting is it?!

Oh so many new series now we have our internet back up and running.  We watch the pilot episode of Elementary and loved it so that’s definitely a new favourite; I think Jonny Lee Miller is fabulous even if he is a little Cumberbatch-esque, then The Last Kingdom which started a few weeks ago and I have downloaded the first episode of Cuffs but haven’t tried that out yet.

I also finally got around to watching the last episode of Poldark (I know…) and sobbed my heart out.  WHAT a sad final episode and what a cheeky cliffhanger to leave us on.

I have been loving my burgundy trousers which I bought a few weeks ago.  They are officially jeggings I think which I never imagined I’d go for but they are so comfy.  It’s a shame they are such an obvious colour as I can’t get away with wearing them too many days in the week!

I am totally loving Adele’s new song at the moment.  I often have one song which inspires me when I’m writing and I’m not sure exactly what it is but I can just sense it’s going to be my song for an upcoming project.  Some sort of tragic love affair perhaps?!

One of the great things about moving was that I unearthed all my recipe books which have been buried at the back of the Welsh Dresser for 2 or 3 years.  They are now sitting in full view and it inspired me to try something new.  My sister bought me a Hairy Bikers recipe book a while back and I was flicking through and came across Pan Haggerty so we gave that a go.  It got the thumbs up from everyone which is always good.

James also did some dessert making with the kid this week.  It was a simple affair: crushed biscuit, whipped cream and strawberries but the finished product was delicious.  It was sort of like a dissembled scone.

And Lastly…

There’s something about moving into a new house which feels like a fresh start and I am really hopeful that this will be a home we can stay in for quite a number of years.  I am feeling reinvigorated to really make a go of the things on my dream list and not keep putting things off until ‘a better time’ … I know it sounds a bit cheesy but it’s true.  Watch this space!

Have a great week all.

It is so exciting rediscovering things. I have never watched elementary, might have to give it a try.

Lovely autumn coloured jeggings, Adele's song is growing on me more and more and I love rediscovering cook books that I haven't used for ages.

I know exactly what you mean about having obvious trousers so you can't wear them too often – haha. People notice them and then it's awkward to wear them every day! Lovely picture of your littles baking and I hope you're settling in beautifully in your new home xx

I'm a total convert to jeggings too – I have black ones which I wear *all* the time as well as some lovely sage green ones. I also considered Cuffs to watch, it was between that, River and From Darkness and then I read reviews of each and River was the only one that got consistently good write ups so that's what I went for! Pan Haggerty really makes me think fondly of my grandma (who died 12 years ago) as that is exactly the kind of thing she would have made – classic food from the North East! Have a lovely weekend in your new home Jess X #littleloves

I love Adele's new song too, it is quite haunting. The jeggings look fab (I want your boots too) – maybe you should buy another colour ;0)

I have so many recipe that I can't keep them all out on show. Every so often I get them out so I can try something different. There's still quite a few that I have never cooked anything from!

Glad you're all settled in now. Moving is such a hassle but it's so lovely once you're in a good stage of unpacking. Yay for rediscovering the cookbooks. Love the jeggings x

Congratulations on the house move. Having once bought a shiny new build, and now being firmly into the second year of renovating an old house, I have to say I know the joys of 'new'. You seem to have settled in really quickly, and the kids look happy, which is always good x

Good luck with your new beginnings, we did move a lot on the nearly 9 years we have been married and the sense of excitement disappeared after a while but I do admit, there is something exciting about starting a new chapter, with a clean slate and all!xx

I have to admit that I am not a fan of the new Adele song, I find it quite dreary and wish she would sing something more upbeat!

Congratulations on the move, so exciting!
The Hairy Bikers cook books are fab aren't they? We've got one of their Diet ones and I'm always digging it out and giving the recipes a try. Quite a few of them have become our favourite meals.
Hope you're having a good week xx
