Dickens, Bieber and a Christmas Jumper…#LittleLoves
Happy New Year to all the #LittleLoves folk…I hope that the first week back to normality hasn’t been too difficult. I have swung between sadness that the kids are back at school and I am back at work and happiness that the house has remained tidy now there aren’t two small people tearing around causing havoc everywhere!
I’ve been back to work this week but it’s been quite gentle, although I have pushed myself to get some writing done as well which has been good. I find it so easy to get lax about sitting down and writing 1,000 words every day but I always, always find that actually just pushing myself to grab a pen and start really gets my writing juices flowing and I often end up going way over that 1,000 mark. I just have to make myself sit down and do it.
But onto this week…
It has been ages since a book has grabbed me so much that I’ve finished it in less than 24 hours but this week I picked up The Ice Twins by S.K. Tremayne and I absolutely raced through it. I thought the ending let it down a bit but up until that point with all the twists and turns it really kept me turning the pages. After reading such a spine-tingling thriller I needed to pick up a more lighthearted book so I’ve opted for Appleby Farm. Hopefully it will be a lovely heartwarming read.
I recorded the first few episodes of Dickensian over Christmas but I only sat down to watch them this week. I am HOOKED. I love that they have so cleverly woven the different characters and their storylines and as a huge fan of Dickens I have been listening out for mention of some lesser known ones too which have also been featured.
We also watched the first episode in the new series of Sherlock. Was anyone else totally bewildered about 20 minutes before the end? I had literally no idea what was going on and the following day I saw this on Twitter. I nodded along with every single one of these!
My Christmas jumper. Unashamedly. Well, maybe a little bit ashamedly. It’s just incredibly comfortable and it seems such a waste of a comfortable jumper to only get to wear it a few times before it has to be put away. Probably won’t get away with it for much longer though.
I got given both Justin Bieber and Adele’s album for Christmas and I am loving them both. I’ve even converted the kids into little Beliebers haha.
A number of New Year’s resolutions? Myself get on the yoga mat and work out? Lots of tenuous links for this one this week I’m afraid! I had hoped to bake now that the kids are back at school but it’s all just run away with me a bit trying to get back into the swing of things.
I’ve had a funny old start to the year. I was quite disappointed with the end of last year; after trying so hard to be a normal school mum and fit in and be sociable and make friends (when I’d much rather be sat at home in my PJ’s reading a good book…) it all kind of blew up in my face and something sad and frustrating happened to fragment the delicate relationships I had started to build (that’s not the ‘love’ part of this by the way…)
Then I came across this quote and it made me smile because let’s face it…I can only be myself. People can either like it or not but that shouldn’t make me change the person I am and I am very much going to hold onto this as my mantra for the year.
So here’s to less ‘normal’ and more ‘being who you were created to be’ … Now, anyone for a night in with a glass of wine and a good film? I promise I won’t wear my pyjamas…
