A Night Out With New Mersey

Why is it that the one thing I look forward to the most over the festive period is the chance to sit back and relax, to unwind, to spend time with my closest family and friends…and yet the one thing which consistently happens year after year is that December is one of our busiest times?!

For that reason I was very pleased when New Mersey, the retail shopping park in Speke, invited us to spend the evening checking out the changes they have recently made.  A chance to spend some quality time with three of my favourite humans.  Sign me up!

We kicked off the evening with some Christmas outfit shopping; I like to try and co-ordinate what we wear on Christmas Day.  It’s a bit daft really as it’s usually only the four of us on the big day itself, but it’s always been a tradition for new clothes at Christmas so it’s one I try to carry on.  We usually pick a theme and then match, although this is getting harder as the kids get older and know their own minds a bit more about what they will and will not wear! New Mersey has a few different fashion stores including a Next which is where we picked up outfits for the kids and James.

After outfit shopping, it was time for some secret present buying. We like to encourage the kids to buy each other a present every year, usually it’s something small but we like to do it all the same. Luckily there is a Smyths at New Mersey so we were able to divide and conquer. I’m not sure the member of staff quite grasped why Eli suddenly shoved a Unicorn Fingerling up his jumper (Meg had appeared around the corner!) but that was at least one more job ticked off the list ahead of Christmas.

We had two final things to do before we headed home for the evening; get something to eat and enjoy a film at the new Cineworld Super Screen. For food we chose TGIs; this was our first time eating at a TGIs and we were definitely impressed with the food. I particularly liked the theming, and the yellow cab out front was a hit with the kids! Portion sizes are big, which I didn’t expect, and I didn’t actually manage to finish all mine but the service was timely, there was an activity pack to keep the kids occupied, and I thought it was fairly priced for a chain restaurant.

Then it was off to the Super Screen, my first time visiting one and I have to say…wow. From the minute you walk in, to the seats and the screens themselves, the whole thing shouts luxury experience, except the prices are the same as at a normal Cineworld. We had chosen to watch ‘Ralph Breaks The Internet’ and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

There is a whole range of shops at New Mersey in Speke; over 40 including the restaurants and the cinema is definitely something which should be experienced if you are local to the area. We will definitely be back!

*We were invited along to spend a night out at New Mersey and our expenses for the meal and the cinema were covered.  All other expenses we paid for ourselves, and our thoughts remain our own.
