Just One More Page: Book Club Announcement!

JessJune 6, 2020

I am so excited to write this post, I’ve had to restart it a couple of times to get my words out coherently 🙂

I have been an avid reader my whole life and love getting to share and chat about all things bookish across my socials, with like-minded people in the book community. I have been in involved in leading two online book clubs prior to starting this one so I have some experience on what it takes to build a wonderful community. I hope to achieve that here!

I receive a good number of messages each week asking for book recommendations, buddy-reads and if I would re-consider starting up another book club and after going backwards and forwards on it…the only possible answer was YES!

And so the ‘Just One More Page’ book club is born.

I hope that through the community we build I can cover all of the things I get asked for on a regular basis.

I’m going to operate this book club slightly differently in that it will be managed through a Patreon page. I hope that anyone considering joining will understand that it takes a whole heap of time, thought and effort to run a virtual book club as just one person, especially when that person also has a regular job!

What will it involve?

It will operate in a very similar vein to most book clubs. A book will be chosen each month and at the end of the month we will have a group discussion. At the moment I am leaning towards using Zoom for this as it allows for many people to gather without needing to sign up for an account and you have the option to not use your camera and/or microphone if you don’t wish providing anonymity for those who want it.

Anyone joining in the second tier will be given access to polls to vote on upcoming reads as well as exclusive video content.

Is this book club for me?

This is a good question to ask before joining! We will predominantly read fiction (although occasionally we will pop a non-fiction in there) and will aim to cover a wide variety of genres.

To give you some ideas of the books we read in a former book club I ran, titles included:-

How to Stop Time – Matt Haig, Children of Blood & Bone – Tomi Adeyemi, Becoming – Michelle Obama, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall – Anne Bronte and One Day in December – Josie Silver.

Can’t I join in for free?

Of course! I’ll be sharing each month’s book on my social media channels, especially the book club’s Instagram page @justonemorepagebookclub – I’m always happy to engage in book conversation in comments etc so you can read at your own pace and chat there. In order to take part in the monthly discussion you will need to be a paying member.

As I said above, co-ordinating a book club takes time and effort and it’s appreciated that you would want to support me by joining one of the tiers. Prices start from just £2 a month but there is absolutely no pressure and I will take zero offence at anyone who feels this isn’t for them.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to me. Otherwise I hope to see you over in the book club!
