We were gifted the wallpaper for Eli’s bedroom by Murals Wallpaper for the purpose of this post. All thoughts and opinions are our own.
There is a big difference between a bedroom that is suitable for a 6 year old, and one that is suitable for an almost 10 year old. It’s crazy to me that it has been over 3 years since we first decorated Eli’s bedroom. Where does the time go?
Eli is at the funny ‘in between’ stage of being a tween. He finds himself feeling too grown up for a lot of the styles associated with a children’s bedroom, but he does still have moments when he likes to play and be a little kid, and the teen styles are therefore too mature. So in re-designing his room we had to find something that landed in the middle. I’m rather pleased with the way it turned out!
We were hampered by the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic; I’d hoped to have his new wardrobe and storage system in place before writing this. Unfortunately the products are from IKEA, and they are unable to confirm when they will be back in stock, so we are working with what we have!
The walls were due a refresh but we kept the paint the same; Dulux Rock Salt as we like the soft and muted tones of this grey. Gone was the cabin bed I spent so many hours scouring the internet for (who remembers Eli’s insistence that he have a cabin bed with space for a hideout underneath?!) and we replaced it with a simple dark grey single bed from Wayfair. Changing the bed also allowed us to move the configuration around and I think it gave the room a totally new vibe. The bed we purchased is no longer available, but I found a very similar alternative here.
We knew the main feature of the room was going to be the mural wallpaper so we tried to tone everything to fit with that. Eli wanted something a little edgier than his last room, and after having a look on the Murals Wallpaper website, we knew which one would be the perfect choice. The mural came rolled up in a small tube, with each piece clearly numbered to make it easy to apply to the wall. You have to paste it yourself so this is something to bear in mind if you are new to the world of wallpapering (as were we) but we found the process straightforward and the room was immediately changed by the addition of the colour to the back wall.
We picked up a preloved leaning desk and the chair was in the bargain corner at IKEA. The wardrobe remains the same, and we purchased a cheap set of drawers from IKEA until we can upgrade to the storage system we would like. I will do a reveal of the opposite side of his room once we are able to. For now it’s just missing some small pieces of artwork.
Many thanks to Wallpaper Mural for working with us on this project. As I said, there are a new final tweaks which still need to be made but until we are fully out of lockdown, our hands are tied!
